A few updates on cookie booths!

Booth Requirements and Information:
  • 2 Girl Scouts with 2 non-related adults (ie: 1 parent cannot supervise two scouts and a couple cannot supervise two scouts), we must have each booth approved by Council before setting up (Carrie can enter them into SNAP and they will be approved- they need 72 hours to be able to approve).
  • Cookies should be picked up from Carrie for booths (if you are working a booth, set up a time with Carrie to pick up the cookies- only one of the two parents working the booth need to worry about this).  If you are working a booth with Carrie, she will have the cookies.
  • During the booth, please keep a tally sheet of each type of cookie and how many of each type were sold.  Nothing fancy is needed, just tick marks on a blank paper are fine.
  • After the booth, please email Brie with the breakdown of what was sold.  You will also need to get any left over cookies back to Carrie and any money from the booth to Melissa as soon as possible.  I would prefer that the person who signed the cookies out at Carrie's be the person to return left over cookies and get money to Melissa.  (The reason being is the person who signed the cookies out is ultimately responsible for the balance of cookies vs. money)
  • Swipers- The app to use the swiper is Sage Payments.  If you are using the app, you can contact Brie for the user name and password.  I will need to get swipers back after each booth as well (unless you are working another booth the next weekend).
  • There are no tables at the sites!  This means that you will need to bring a table and chairs, as well as any signs or other attention grabbers for your table when you are there.  Feel free to coordinate with your partner about who can bring tables or chairs and what kind of posters or signage you would like to have up during your booth time.  Most time slots are 3 hours, so bring a chair, and also remember to dress appropriately for the weather.  Ideally, the girls should wear their sashes, but please be sure to dress warmly and be prepared for the cold!

Hike Cancelled

Unfortunately with the lousy weather, and the probable lack of rain gear available for each girl, the hike scheduled for today, Dec 14th, will be cancelled.

At our next meeting on Monday, we can discuss a time to reschedule, most likely after the holidays.

See you Monday!  Don't forget your family star!

Troop Hike! Saturday, December 14, 2pm to 4pm

On Saturday, December 14, the troop will be taking a hike at the Occoneechee Mountain State Natural area in Hillsborough.  The hike is planned from 2pm until 4pm Saturday afternoon.

Please RSVP to Brie as soon as possible!!    This should be done via e-mail and as soon as you are sure your scout will attend.

The hike will be Scouts only!  As of today, all of the adult/chaperone spots are full, so unless you've already been told by Brie that you were a chaperone, plan on dropping off your scout by 1:50pm in the parking lot at the park.  While the hike will start at 2pm, if you are not there early, it will delay the entire group.  Please be respectful of your fellow Scouts and our Ranger and chaperones by being on time!!

This will be a geology hike, accompanied by a ranger, and the girls should plan on dressing warmly and comfortably enough to hike a mile and a half.  They should also be prepared for the day's weather.  As of Monday, December 9, the forecast for Saturday is cloudy and warmer than this week, with highs in the mid 50s.  The girls should dress in layers which will allow for adjustment if the weather turns cool, windy, rainy or even warm.  They should also wear fairly sturdy, comfortable shoes.  No special equipment is required, a good pair of sneakers or tennis shoes should be adequate.  Even though it is winter, they will be outdoors for 2 hours, so consider a light sunblock and lip protection.

Remind your Scout to get a good night's rest on Friday night, and to eat a good, balanced breakfast and lunch before taking off.  She should also drink plenty of water in the morning to start out well hydrated.  Avoid caffeine or overly sugary snacks and foods for lunch before the hike, as she will need a good balanced meal with protein and complex carbohydrates to help fuel her on the trail.

The Park's official address is 618 Virginia Cates Rd, Hillsborough, NC, 27278
If you need further information, the contact number is 919-383-1686

There is a link to a map of the park here

The directions, found on the Occoneechee Mountain website, are as follows:
To reach Occoneechee Mountain State Natural Area from I-85, take exit 164. Turn right traveling north on Churton Street, and turn left at the next traffic light onto Mayo Street. At the next stop sign, turn left onto Orange Grove Road. Turn at the second right on to Virginia Cates Road, and follow the signs to the parking area.

Here is a link to the park website.  http://www.ncparks.gov/Visit/parks/ocmo/main.php  which includes trail maps and parking lot maps.

Feel free to use the comments section below to communicate possible hook ups for car pooling to and from the park.  Again, keep in mind that all of the adult spots available for this outing are full, and no siblings will be allowed for the organized geology hike.  You are welcome to stay and enjoy the park, or you can return to pick up your scout at 4pm.
